We have quite a few dated markets this week, and some of the
deadlines are coming up pretty quickly. You may want to take note
of these.

New Markets:
Scheherazade Tales Romance E-Novels is looking for
romance novel manuscripts featuring 'older' heroines. "Whether
it's romantic suspense, paranormal, light-hearted humor, or
matron-lit, we want to see stories aimed for maturing baby-boomers
who still love a gripping, tender, passionate romantic tale.
Sensuality from sweet to spicy, but no erotica." CLICK HERE
Hungur is a new vampire magazine to be published
twice a year. The first issue will be out on All Souls Night,
2005 (that's November 1.) They are especially interested in alien
or extra-terrestrial vampires. CLICK HERE
Apex Publications is beginning a new quarterly magazine
called Apex Science Fiction & Horror Digest.
"Apex is looking to publish the best edgy science fiction
and horror in the business." Only science fiction stories
are wanted, though horror science fiction is preferred. CLICK HERE
Market Changes:
Brutarian is returning. Their web site will be
back up in a couple of months. When they have a URL, I will let
you know.
From The Asylum has new guidelines at CLICK HERE.
They want speculative fiction, flash fiction and poetry.
HarperCollins Publishers has named Michael Morrison the
President and Group Publisher of HarperMorrow, a new
division of the General Books Group. He will be responsible for
HarperCollins, William Morrow, HarperEntertainment, Morrow
Cookbooks, HarperPerennial, Avon, Eos, Dark Alley, Amistad,
HarperAudio, HarperLarge Print and PerfectBound imprints. CLICK HERE
The Random House Publishing Group's new senior vice
president and exeutive editor-in-chief, Daniel Menaker, plans on
combining Random House's literary lines (Random House, Modern
Library, Villard, and Random House Trade Paperbacks) with the its
more commercial imprints (Ballantine Books, Del Rey, One World,

Closed Markets:
Futures Mysterious Anthology Magazine will close
as of issue 3 of 2005. There isn't much chance they'll be needing
any more stories to fill the 2005 issues, but if they do, they
will announce it on their website in January of 2005. CLICK HERE.
Lenox Avenue is closed for submissions from
December 1, 2004 to January 31, 2005. CLICK HERE
Dated Markets (Anthologies, Contests, Special and Themed
Issues):
Gryphonwood Press is holding a short story contest.
"The one requirement: The main character must be a knight,
but not a very good one." Deadline: December 1, 2004. CLICK HERE
The Mystery Writers of America have announced three new
anthologies to be published with Tor Books. The theme of
the first anthology will be "mysterious relationships",
under the working title Relationships Can Be Murder.
It will be edited by Harlan Coben. Deadline is December 15, 2004.
You must be a member of the Mystery Writers of America. CLICK HERE
Corpse Blossoms anthology of stories on fear has
extended it's deadline to December 31, 2004. CLICK HERE
Carnifex Press's Revenant anthology is
looking for horror stories related to ghosts or beings that are
tied to a particular area. Reading period has been extended to
January 1, 2005. Any submissions sent after that date will be
returned unread. CLICK HERE
Oceans of the Mind, a Science Fiction magazine,
produces themed issues. Their current and future themes are:
- Spring 2005 -- Last submission date February 1, 2005.
Military Science Fiction.
- Summer 2005 -- Last submission date May 1, 2005. Sport.
How will our favorite sports change in the future and
what new ones will emerge?
- Fall 2005 -- Last submission date August 1, 2005. Science
Fiction Mysteries. Robbery, murder, piracy, locked room.

Margin's annual Periphery flash fiction/prose
poem contest is now open to submissions. Deadline: February 15,
2005. Theme: Reasonable Facsimiles: Twins, Mirrors and
Doppelgangers. Entry fee: $7.50. (Prize is $50, copies, and

Texas Poetry Calendar 2006 is looking for poetry
somehow connected to Texas. Deadline: March 15, 2005. For

All-Star Stories is looking for epics for their
anthology, Twenty Epics. Reading period: December
20, 2004 to March 21, 2005. Do not send before or after this
reading period or your story will be deleted. Interesting note:
The shorter the epic (under 5000 words) the more they pay. CLICK HERE
Sam's Dot Publishing is looking for science fiction and
fantasy stories and poems on the theme of 'bondage' for their
anthology of that name. "Bondage intends to
explore themes that tie humans and aliens to various aspects of
their lives and to each other." CLICK HERE
Hourglass Books is reading for their second story
anthology, Leaving Home, "a collection of
stories about the experience of departure and change." They
are only interested in 'literary fiction' -- no genre pieces. CLICK HERE
News:
Odyssey, The Fantasy Writing Workshop, will be
held June 13 - 22, 2005. CLICK HERE
Ellen Datlow has been having technical problems with

guidelines section). If anyone has e-mailed her through that link
in the past four weeks, she would like you to try again. Her new

Helen McCloy/MWA Scholarship for Mystery Writing is
open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents, "to nurture
talent in mystery fiction, nonfiction, playwriting, and
screenwriting." The Mystery Writers of America will
present two scholarships for up to $500 in the summer or fall of

Our Losses:
Ed Kemmer, died November 9, 2004 at the age of 84.
Kemmer played Commander Buzz Corry on Space Patrol in the
