New Leaf Books, an imprint of WigWam Publishing Co., is
looking for manuscripts of any genre, 'unique stories with

The Writer's Nook & Reader's Corner is open
to all genres, including poetry. "We are currently looking
for any type of fiction that is character-driven and has a solid
plot. Or anthing that just plain makes us feel good, forget about
the world for a few minutes, or catches our eye for any other

OR Christian Science Fiction is mostly looking
for "Bible-based stories that are sci-fi or fantasy in

Fictitious Force, a new speculative fiction

Market Changes:
Rockway Press is looking for out-of-print books to
republish. If you have a published book that is now out-of-print,

Penguin's United Kingdom Chief Executive Officer,
Anthony Forbes Watson, has left the publisher. John Makinson,
Penguin Group Chairman and CEO, will be adding Watson's
responsibilities to his own portfolio. CLICK HERE
Salt Publishing, an independent literary publisher, has
incorporated, appointing Linda Bennett as its new director in
charge of business development. CLICK HERE
Carnifex Press is now closed to novella submissions
until August. They are still reading short stories for their
upcoming anthology: Clash Of Steel: Book Two - Assassin. CLICK HERE
Dark Animus is now open to submissions from non-subscribers.
"Dark Animus is interested in original, dark, gritty
pulp fiction (science fiction, horror, fantasy, weird

The Carnifex Press anthology, Revenant, a Horror
Anthology, is full and no longer accepting submissions.
Deadline was January 1, 2005 or until filled.
Revelation Press, a Christian speculative fiction
market, is full and will not be looking for submissions until

Harbinger Books, the secular imprint of Revelation
Press, is also full and closed to submissions until September

Coscom Entertainment is closed to short story and
poetry collections, and is temporarily closed to all submissions

Cyberpulp Magazine is closed to submissions
while the magazine is being redesigned. CLICK HERE
Highwater Books, a comics publisher, ended operations
at the end of 2004. Remaining stock can be bought from Bodega

MicroFiction.Net, a flash fiction market, is
only open for submissions the first half of every month. Next
reading period is March 1 to March 15, 2005. CLICK HERE
The Victoria School of Writing Postcard Story Competition
is looking for entries of postcard stories -- complete stories in

The Mount Arrowsmith Novel Writing Contest is open to

News:
Did an asteroid kill off the dinosaurs? Some say 'No',
because fossil records show dinosaurs living thousands of years
past the asteroid impact. There is some evidence, though, that
the fossil record may have been jumbled by the tsunami caused by

Astronomers claim to have discovered the smallest planet
found outside our solar system so far. Just how common are

Our Losses:
Arthur Miller (October 17, 1915 - February 10, 2005).
Miller, the playwright famous for Death of a Salesman and The
Crucible, was also well-known for being married to Marilyn
Monroe. "Broadway marquees dimmed their lights Friday at

Jack Chalker (December 17, 1944 - February 11, 2005). A
prolific, award-winning speculative fiction author, Chalker was
also a freelance editor and the founder of The Mirage Press, Ltd.
He is probably best known for his novel, Midnight at the Well
of Souls, and its sequels. CLICK HERE
Philip DeGuere Jr. died January 24, 2005, at the age of
60. DeGuere wrote and produced popular television shows and
movies, such as Alias Smith and Jones, Max Headroom,
JAG, The Dead Zone and the 1980's version of The
Twilight Zone. He is best known for creating the television
