The Oxford American has returned! After a long
hiatus, the award-winning magazine returns as a non-profit

Solari Press, an eBook publisher of "thought-provoking,
gripping stories in the genres of romance (including erotic
romance), science fiction and fantasy, and westerns, or any
blending of the three genres", is looking for works greater
than 10,000 words, but especially works between 10,000 and 25,000

nanobison is a new webzine looking for science

Market Changes:
Absolute Magnitude will reopen to unsolicited
submissions on April 1, 2005. Manuscripts may be submitted now,

Allison & Busby, a small UK publisher, is
appointing Susie Dunlop as Publishing Director, replacing David
Shelley. Shelley is moving to Time Warner as an Editorial
Director.

Poetry publisher Copper Canyon Press has a new artistic
director, Michael Wiegers, who replaces cofounder Sam Hamill. CLICK HERE
The editors of Meisha Merlin want to assure people that
they are receiving e-mails, despite the messages saying the e-mail

Closed Markets:
Frothing at the Mouth has been declared dead.
The Women's Review of Books closed in December,
2004, though the editor hopes to relaunch again some day. CLICK HERE
The Chattahoochee Review is closed to poetry
submissions until September 1, 2005. CLICK HERE
The Mary Roberts Rinehart Award has been suspended
until the fall of 2006. CLICK HERE
Sinisteria: Horror for the Hellbound is on
temporary hiatus while reorganizing. CLICK HERE
Wicked Karnival is closed to submissions at this
time. They also have new submission guidelines -- they now pay $5

The Flash Fiction: Hell On Earth Contest is look for
stories of 666 words (no more, no less) about Hell on Earth.

Fly Rod & Reel Magazine offers the Robert Traver
Award for a short story that "embodies an implicit love

Liquid Laughter is "a collaborative writing
project, in which twelve writers will produce a book of short
stories based on a pre-selected setting and set of characters."

The Minnesota Monthly is offering the 2005 Tamarack
Award of $10,000 for a short story. Only residents of

hospice care. "She is losing the battle with her illness and

The 2005 Odyssey Writing Workshop will be held from
June 13 to July 22, 2005 at Saint Anselm College in Manchester,

Our Losses:
Sonya Dorman Hess (1924 - February 14, 2005) As Sonya
Dorman and Sonya Hess, she wrote science fiction, essays and
poetry. Her most famous short story was the award-winning When I

Zdzislaw Beksinski (1929 - February 22, 2005).
Beksinski was a renowned fantasy artist.
