to literary and poetry markets, and beyond...

New Markets:
Subterranean Press is launching a new magazine, Subterranean
Magazine. The theme for the first issue is Science
Fiction Cliches. They are only accepting submissions between
October 1 and November 1, 2005. CLICK HERE
The Sword Review is accepting submissions of any
genre, especially fantasy and science fiction. Although stories
do not have to be religious, they must reflect Christian values.
"It might be convenient to think of the movie industry's PG-13
rating when considering if your submission is a good fit." CLICK HERE
Market Changes:
Zebra Books is no longer accepting speculative fiction
manuscripts. CLICK HERE
Nocturnal Ooze is going bimonthly. CLICK HERE
Scorched Earth Publications now pays, but only
for their lead story or poem. They have themed issues. Deceit has
a deadline of April 1, 2005. Amusement has a deadline of June 5,

Closed Markets:
Space & Time will be closed to submissions
beginning March 31, 2005, for an indefinite time period. CLICK HERE
Dark Animus is once more closed to non-subscriber
submissions until Issue #8 is out. Submissions from subscribers
are always welcome. CLICK HERE
The Georgia Review, a scholarly magazine that
accepts fiction, non-fiction and poetry, will close to
submissions on May 15 until August 15. CLICK HERE
Decompositions, the dark poetry e-zine, is
currently closed to submissions. CLICK HERE
Dated Markets (Anthologies, Contests, Special and Themed
Issues):
The Dark Highways anthology now has a deadline,
and the editor, David Bain, is three months behind on his reading
for this anthology. Deadline: April 7, 2005. CLICK HERE
CBC Radio's Between the Covers is looking
for submissions of published flash fiction (between 350 and 500
words) from Canadians, which will be read and broadcast on the
radio show Between the Covers. "Stories must be fantastical
in content, (i.e. magical realism, science fiction, fantasy, etc.)"
and must have been published in a paying professional or semi-professional
publication. To enter, send the story in plain text format, in
the body of an e-mail, to EMAIL. CLICK HERE
The Writers' Center of Indiana journal, Maize,
is looking for submissions of fiction, poetry and literary
nonfiction for their Fall Issue. Deadline: April 30. CLICK HERE
Boulevard is also only open to submissions until
April 30. They "publish only the finest in fiction, poetry,
and non-fiction (essays, interviews, etc.)" Read their
guidelines for the types of genres they do not accept. CLICK HERE
Flytrap has announced a reading period for issue
#5. Any genre will be considered. Reading period: April 1 to May
15, 2005. CLICK HERE
The Southern Review publishes fiction, certain
non-fiction, and poetry, with a special interest in southern
culture and history. They do not accept submissions in the summer
months, so you've got to May 31, 2005 to submit, or you'll have
to wait until September. CLICK HERE
The Tin House's reading period will also end May
31, 2005. CLICK HERE
The Ekphrasis Prize is a poetry contest looking for
poems that are about specific works of art in any artistic genre.
Entry fee: $3 per poem. Deadline: June 30, 2005. CLICK HERE
SpecFicWorld.com's 3rd Annual Speculative
Fiction Contest will open to entries of unpublished science
fiction, fantasy and horror stories on May 15, 2005. Entry fee: $7.

Descant is accepting submissions of fiction,
certain non-fiction, poetry and art for their issue themed Cuba.

The 1st Annual Scorched Earth Writing
Contest is looking for submissions of short stories or poetry
on the theme of Resurrection. Entry fee: $15. Deadline: September

The Brick & Mortar Review is holding their Brick
& Mortar Contest. You can send your poems by e-mail or
snail mail. Entry Fee: $15 for 3 - 5 poems. Deadline: September 5,

Claude Lalumiere is co-editing a new anthology called Lust
for Life: Wild Tales of Sex & Love. The theme is
"sex & love, of course -- from diverse perspectives,
offering diverse possibilities." Deadline: September 15,

Lost Pages is looking for Science Fiction,
Fantasy and Cross-genre submissions for an issue with that as a

News:
Due to computer failure, Black Gate magazine has
lost two years worth of e-mail and their electronic slush pile.
If you haven't received a response from Black Gate
regarding queries, e-mails or electronic submissions you've sent,

The Science Fiction Hall of Fame is inducting four
members -- two living and two dead -- at the Science Fiction
Museum, May 5 - 7, 2005. They are:
- Steven Spielberg
- Ray Harryhausen
- Chesley Bonestell
- Philip K. Dick
Our Losses:
Raylyn Moore (1928 - February 27, 2005) The wife of
author Ward Moore, she wrote several short stories, some of which
were included in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction
and the Orbit anthologies. She also wrote the novel What
Happened to Emily Goode After the Great Exhibition and a non-fiction
book about L. Frank Baum, Wonderful Wizard, Marvelous Land.
