New Markets:
Juliet Annan's new Penguin imprint, Fig Tree, is looking for literary books with commercial appeal. The press will launch February 2006. General Penguin policy is to not accept unsolicited manuscripts or synopses. CLICK HERE
New Moon: The Magazine for Girls and Their Dreams is a new magazine aimed at girls 8-14. They accept some fiction that "empowers girls of this age". Note: They buy ALL rights. CLICK HERE
Midnight Ink is a new publisher of "suspenseful tales of all types: hard-boiled thrillers, cozies, historical mysteries, amateur sleuth novels, and more." CLICK HERE

Cracked Magazine has been bought by a group of investors, and plans are being made for a relaunch. Monty Sarhan will be the new publisher and CEO. Their new web site, http://www.cracked.com, should be up this fall. CLICK HERE
Abyss & Apex editors are apologizing for missing their self-imposed deadline of June 15 for replying to all submissions from their April - May reading period. They are reading as fast as they can.
Scifantastic is going from on-line journal to print. Editor Sarah Dobbs says, "we don't have enough fantasy - especially high, S&S, out of this world, dwarf -meets-girl kinda fantasy." CLICK HERE

Our Losses:
Scott Young (April 14, 1918 - 2005) Young, father of musician Neil Young, was a well-known Canadian journalist and author. He went from sports reporter and war correspondent for Canadian Press in the 1940s to writing short stories, young adult novels, the autobiographical Neil and Me, and adult novels such as Murder in a Cold Climate and The Shaman's Knife. Lane Smith (1936 - June 13, 2005) Smith was a varied actor, having acted in The Legend of Bagger Vance, V: The Series, and as Perry White on the TV series Lois & Clark. CLICK HERE
