Vintage Romance Publishing wants romances set before 1969, in sub-genres such as historical, comedy, suspense and paranormal. CLICK HERE

Long Barn Books will start publishing one fiction book per year in 2006. The author must never have published a novel, and must be a UK citizen and resident. CLICK HERE

Atlantic Romances Publishing's new imprint Heart's Desire (Romances of Newfoundland) is looking for submissions of romance novels which take place in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. CLICK HERE

Quill-pen.net Magazine of Unbelievable Stories is looking for erotica, mystery, fantasy/horror, science fiction, the paranormal, and action/adventure. CLICK HERE

Chronicle magazine will now publish one fiction short story per month. "Since we offer the best rate of any print magazine [10 cents per word] we want to see the best of the best in the Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror genres." Kensington Publishing will no longer be publishing Regency romances as part of their Zebra line, beginning in October 2005. They will be launching a new humorous erotica line in January of 2006.

Harlequin is holding contests for novels to be published in their Blaze series, and their new Epic Romance line.

  • Blaze series: Send "a first chapter (maximum 25 pages) and a synopsis (maximum 5 pages)." Deadline: August 31, 2005. CLICK HERE
  • Epic Romance: Submit "a detailed outline of their story (indicating, where appropriate, points of view you plan to use, the narrative structure and timelines), plus the first chapter. The complete submission must total no more than 50 pages." Deadline: October 31, 2005. CLICK HERE

Evan Hunter (1926 - July 6, 2005) Under the pen name of Ed McBain, Hunter was a prolific writer, most famous as the inventor of the 'police procedural' novel, with his famous 87th Precinct series. He also wrote science fiction as himself, Richard Marsten and Hunt Collins. CLICK HERE
